12 noon
The New Year’s Dive itself takes place at 12 noon. On Scheveningen beach, a colourful crowd of enthusiasts gathers, many dressed in eye-catching costumes or fun outfits. Even before the dive begins, there is already a great atmosphere among the participants and spectators.
After a short countdown, it’s time! At precisely 12:00 noon, the starting signal sounds, and large groups of participants race into the cold North Sea. The water is inevitably freezing, but the participants are encouraged by the cheers and support of the crowd.

History
The Scheveningen New Year’s Dive dates back to the early 1960s, when a group of friends plunged into the cold water on January 1 as a daring way to start the new year. Since then, it has grown into a national event held annually at various locations along the Dutch coast. But here in Scheveningen, we’re home to the most famous New Year’s Dive!
